Lol! Mine's not that bad! It actually gets the 1000 Julys tone pretty well!

Yup, I absolutely nail the Wounded tone with mine. Have you tried heavier strings for alternate tunings? I have 10's on mine and it stays in tune pretty well, but I'd like to try 11's someday on it. I use the tuning for Losing a Whole Year for some of my songwriting, among other tunings.
Yip! I have .11s on both my MJs...on my Roadster the thicker strings REALLY helped with alternate tunings and they gave it a bit of a more pronounced (and less shrill) ring. But on the Roadster fretboard, .11s hurt like a BIATCH (which isn't the case on my other guitars strung with .11s or bigger). Go figure.

Definitely. I think that's why you see them come up used sometimes. Some people buy them, but in reality they want a Les Paul or something more normal/classic. They're not for everyone, but they're great.
I'll even be so bold as to say that my MJs are awesome, but some of my other guitars get a lot closer to the recorded 3EB tones. And between the two that I have, the more expensive custom one doesn't hold or even sound that good with alternate tunings. Nature of the beast, I suppose.
I always tell people that the MJ "sound" is all over "Blue" and KC's solo stuff.

MJs are amazing for flexibility, versatility and overall tone, but it can't quite get you the vibe of an old Junior or Tele. So, it's the best guitar I've ever played, but you just can never have too many guitars!
Exactly. I never understood people who go out looking for one guitar that does "everything." If you want a guitar that sounds like a LP, then get an LP. If you want a guitar that sounds like a Tele, then get a Tele, etc., etc., etc.! If you want an MJ, then order one exactly how you want it, but don't expect it to sound like a LP or like a tele, just because it has x pickup or y pickup in it...it's going to sound like an MJ!

I should've clarified in my initial post. The Mirage GTs are more Tele like (two singles), the Mirage Rallys are more Strat like (three singles, or two single and an HB), and the Mirage Standards are more Les Paul like (two HBs). The Mirage Custom is probably most like a Les Paul (mahogany body). So what you want is probably either the Standard or Custom. Kevin also plays his gold top Catalina, which is his hollowbody guitar (that may be my dream guitar at this point).
The tuners are nice. I'll admit, changing strings is a little more of a process than with just a regular Gibson or Fender headstock, but you get used to it and it's not bad at all. I just have to fold the strings under more often as I'm winding them because they get hung up on the headstock more than they would on other guitars. It's not a big deal, and they stay in tune well.

The reality is that you can have them make whatever you want. I went crazy:
